ZANU-PF councillors prolong Insiza council impasse

Insiza Rural District Council remains paralyzed as ZANU-PF councillors continue to boycott full council meetings, protesting the election of Councillor Reason Msipha as the council chairperson.

On Monday, the full council meeting was abruptly adjourned after ZANU-PF councillors walked out, halting council proceedings.

The ruling party councillors expressed their discontent with Msipha’s chairmanship, alleging that his election was influenced by votes from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Sources within the council confirmed that the ZANU-PF boycott persisted during Wednesday’s full council meeting.

โ€œWe hadย another fullย council meeting today. All ZANU-PFย councillorsย didย not attendย the meeting except theย chairmanย who addressed the meeting,โ€ said the source.ย

“All ZANU-PF councillors did not attend the meeting except the chairman who addressed the meeting.”

The sources indicated that the internal conflict within ZANU-PF stems from a desire to remove Msipha from the chairmanship and replace him with their preferred candidate, Luke Dube, who lost the election to Msipha.

They also expressed concerns about how Msipha secured votes from CCC members, and are reportedly pressuring to resign.

Msipha, however, has reportedly refused to step down, stating that he was duly elected and should not be forced out.
