BCC to hire 50 contract nurses

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is seeking to hire 50 contract nurses to beef up staff at its clinics.

The local authority which operates 19 clinics and one hospital, Thorngrove Hospital, has been hit by mass resignations with nurses moving abroad for better opportunities.

This has crippled service delivery with some clinics said to be operating at less than 50% staff capacity.

Recently, the Government gave the council the green light to hire 500 health workers to boost its staff complement.

In a notice, Tuesday, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the council was seeking to hire 50 contract registered nurses.

“The City of Bulawayo offers an attractive package comprising a competitive salary plus a number of fringe benefits, details of which will be revealed to the shortlisted applicants,” said Dube.

Prospective applicants be holders of a Diploma in General Nursing, registered with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe and must possess a valid practising certificate.

They must also have at least 2 years of experience as a qualified nurse.

Applicants must be sent no later than May 22, 2023.
