Mrs Sikhubekiso Madeya Mangena, the widow of the late national hero and Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZPRA) commander Rodgers Alfred Nikita Mangena, has died at the age of 69.

Her son, Lotshe Mangena, confirmed that she passed away on Sunday afternoon at the family home in Manningdale, Bulawayo.

“At this time, I am unsure of the cause of death, but she passed away yesterday afternoon at our home in Manningdale,” he told CITE.

Mourners are gathered at 104 Tiffin Road in Manningdale. Funeral arrangements are still being finalised.

“Since it happened yesterday, we are still making funeral arrangements. We will provide further updates in due course,” he added.

Mangena died on 28 June 1978, when the vehicle he was traveling in struck a landmine near Kabanga Mission in Zambia.

His remains were reburied at the national shrine on August 11, 1998.
