We will deliver a new Zimbabwe, Chamisa declares in New Year message

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has declared that his party will deliver a โ€œnew Great Zimbabweโ€ this year, with the 2023 harmonised elections on the horizon.

In a 2-minute address posted on his Twitter page, Chamisa said 2023 is an important year, where we are โ€œgoing to see His hand, the hand of our God, His word is going to be fulfilledโ€.

The opposition leader will once again go head-to-head with the incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the presidential election with polls expected around July and August.

In the 2018 presidential election, Mnangagwa won 50.8% of the votes while  Chamisa, who was the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) alliance candidate won 44.3%.

Allaying fears and frustration among the populace that his party was not doing much to wrestle control of the country from the ruling party which has been in power since 1980, Chamisa said:

โ€œWe have been doing a lot, you will see in the passage of time, with the fruition of time you will see and realise that we have done a lot, a lot is being done,โ€ he said without elaborating.

โ€œThis year is going to be an excellent year, Itโ€™s a wonderful yearโ€.

The youthful leader said his party will announce their agenda for 2023 in due course.

Since its formation in January last year, the opposition party is yet to be launched officially and is yet to unveil its constitution, structures and a manifesto for the upcoming elections.

The delay in formalising the party solicited a barrage of criticism but the party has defended its stance saying it was a strategy to avert infiltration from Zanu PF.

Chamisa admitted that his party will face challenges in 2023 but said they will invest in peace and nation-building while working on delivering a new Zimbabwe.

โ€œWherever you are donโ€™t despair, donโ€™t be disappointed, the future is holding great things for us. We are going to be breaking news in the whole world,โ€ he said as a parting shot.
