Bulawayo will host Ubuntu Night, an event designed to highlight Zimbabwe’s cultural diversity and provide a platform for local artists who often struggle to gain wider recognition due to limited funding and marketing support.

Ubuntu Night will be held on 20 December 2025 at the Zimbabwe Music Academy.

Event spokesperson Desmond Ntini said the aim is to bring people together through culture and shared experiences.

“We want to celebrate the culture of Ubuntu. December is a period when families gather, so it felt fitting to host an event that focuses on tradition and community,” he said.

Ubuntu Night began in 2024 when musician Bhila Ngwanabezi partnered with Linda Hirsch, managing director of Rainbowcolours Switzerland.

Their concept soon drew interest from other creatives, including Ihawu Lesizwe founder Timothy Mlalazi, eventually leading to the formal establishment of Ubuntu Night as an organisation dedicated to supporting artists and preserving cultural practices.

Ntini added that this year’s edition will also continue discussions around men’s health and gender equality.

“November is men’s month, so we want to maintain that conversation during the event while also touching on gender equality,” he said.

The programme will feature a modelling contest, fashion showcases, traditional dances and music, reflecting the range of Zimbabwe’s cultural expressions. The event will also recognise all 16 official languages and their associated traditions.

“There will be music, dance and presentations that highlight the varied cultural identities found across Zimbabwe,” Ntini said. “Traditional dress, dance styles and food will form part of the experience.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear attire that reflects their heritage, Ndebele, Shona, Kalanga or any other, to contribute to the evening’s cultural atmosphere.
