Siblings fight over sugarcane

By Judith Sibanda

A misunderstanding over sugarcane between two Victoria Falls brothers turned violent resulting in one of the siblings sustaining a fractured leg and swollen lip.

Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene heard how Nambikwa Ncube (47) of Jambezi under chief Shana assaulted his 52-year-old brother Macloud Ncube of the same village on September 29.

Prosecutors said that the fight between the two ensued when Macloud reprimanded Nambikwa for the way he was cutting sugarcane sticks in his garden.

“The accused person assaulted the complainant with clenched fists several times over the matter on his face before picking a stone and started to hit him with it all over his body.”

The prosecutors said Nambikwa went on to bite his brother’s upper lip causing some severe haemorrhage and injury.

A police report was immediately made in Jambezi, leading to his arrest

According to a medical report produced in court, Macloud sustained body injuries and a fracture on his leg.

Nambakwe was convicted on his own plea of guilt, and Dzvene slapped him with a one-year jail sentence but three months for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The other nine months were suspended on the condition that he performs 315 hours of community service at Kanyambizi Clinic starting on November 29.
