GMAZ, health workers in mealie meal deal

The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZNA) which will see 16 811 health workers accessing 20kg of roller meal every month in designated hospitals countrywide. 

GMAZ Chairman Tafadzwa Musarara confirmed the move to CITE saying they do not want front line workers to spend most of their time in queues for mealie meal. 

“Indeed, we have entered an agreement with ZNA where we are going to distribute mealie meal at hospitals. We want our nurses to not spend their time in queues for mealie meal, we want them to help people during this time of Covid-19,” said Musarara. 

The two parties entered the agreement last month which will see nurses, doctors and other ancillary staff buying mealie meal at their respective work stations. 

“Whereas public health practitioners in Zimbabwe hospitals, through the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Hereinafter referred to as ZNA and duly represented by its President Mr Dongo, him being duly authorized thereto),  in their quest to continue the fight against Covid-19, have specially requested that they be supplied with roller meal at their respective work stations country wide. 

“And whereas, the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (hereinafter referred as to GMAZ and duly represented by its chairman, with the full mandate to consent from its membership in desirous to support the health professionals in the fight against Covid-19 by supplying roller meal for the ultimate benefit of the health professionals country wide,” reads the MOU. 

According to the MOU, GMAZ will ensure the delivery of 33 622 bags of 10kg roller meal countrywide for the frontline employees while ZNA is expected to mobilise funds for the purchase of a maximum of two bags of roller meal per individual employee.

The MOU between GMAZ and ZNA follows the another similar arrangment in which members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police will have mealie meal delivered at their stations.
