ECD centre appeals for assistance

A 54-year-old woman who runs Phumuza Early Childhood Development (ECD)centre which mostly caters for orphans and vulnerable children is appealing for financial assistance to the centre.

The centre is located in Heany junction, Umguza.

In an interview with CITE, Nolia Mabhena said she opened the center in January last year and currently has an enrolment of 24 children who are struggling to pay school fees due to various reasons.

“So, I am struggling to run the centre. I need funding to buy the furniture, stationery, fence and food to feed the children. There are three women teachers who are getting peanuts for their services, one woman is cleaning the centre, one woman is sewing the uniforms and one man is maintaining the school,” she said.

She added that the registration of the centre is in the process.

Mabhena said she was motivated to set up the learning centre after noticing that most women in the community faced challenges in taking their children to the nearest school which is 10 km away.

Those willing to assist Mabhena can get in touch with her on +263 773 627 654.
