We will focus on undoing Zanu PF’s failures: CCC councillor

The newly elected ward 1 Councillor in Tjankwa, Bulilima, Ephraim Moyo says once assuming office he will immediately form a ward committee that will look into the welfare of vulnerable members of the community.

Moyo polled 385 votes while his closest challenger was Kossam Ndlovu (Zanu-PF) who had 315 votes, while Dalton Moyo of People’s Patriotic Party (PPP) settled for 12 votes and Lingiwe Nyoni of the Constitutional Generation for Change (CGC)only managed a paltry 7 votes.

In an interview with CITE, Moyo said his victory was a bold statement from the suffering masses yearning for change.

“We want to create a committee that will look after vulnerable groups, the elderly and those with disabilities in our communities because you find them going for a whole day without a proper meal,” said Moyo.

He said he will also focus on resuscitating an irrigation scheme which has been abandoned.

“We are promising the people that when given a chance we will correct the damage caused by the ruling party, as it is we have an irrigation scheme in Sikhathini, without proper fencing and no longer functional. I think only 20 percent of that irrigation is functional, that is one of the projects that I want to assist the people with,” said Moyo.

Moyo added that he will also prioritise the road infrastructure.

“Transport operators are charging extra fees due to poor road network, the distance of less  than 15km is charged between R70 to R100 which becomes a burden for villagers to access Plumtree town, most people risk using the bush to cut the cost of transport, those are some of the things that we want to fix.”

He added, “We also have our youths who are not doing anything and spend their day in local shops drinking alcohol we will try to create programs that will keep our youths busy, the youths are our future, without the youths we are nothing.”

He was, however, quick to point out that they will face challenges in delivering some of the promises.

“But we know very well that our opponents will try to frustrate our efforts because they want to come back to the people and say we have failed, we are aware of that, they will try to use the Member in Parliament to frustrate our efforts so that they will capitalize on that.

“We know that as long as Nelson Chamisa is not in power, our efforts are going to be in vain as they will try to frustrate our efforts and call us failures, but we want to try to assist the villagers because they are drowning in poverty,” said Moyo.
