As part of equipping young people with life skills, Rainy Dayz Foundation has paid school fees for 40 pupils drawn from Esigodini’s Irisvale Primary and Secondary schools in Umzingwane, Matabeleland South.
Fronted by former Highlanders striker, Malvern Ntini who hails from Esigodini and now based in the United States of America, Rainy Dayz Foundation is into youth mentorship, girl child and women empowerment as well as combating hunger.
The foundation, a brainchild of Ntini and his wife, Marion paid a total of ZWL $110,000 for the 40 learners.
The former footballer said that was his first gesture as he seeks to reestablish his ties with his former school and community.
Ntini said he was encouraged by his wife to assist back home as he would continually tell her tales of his difficult upbringing in Irisvale that would see him walk barefoot nine kilometres to school.
He added that they conceived the plan to assist the schools last year but they were held up by Covid-19.
Beneficiaries and their parents at the presentation ceremony who could not contain their joy expressed their gratitude to the good Samaritans.
Many parents, especially those in rural areas are struggling to send their children to school and of late the Covid-19 pandemic has aggravated the situation.
