Two die in bus accident

Two people died on the spot while 22 others were injured when a Dubbies bus that was traveling to Binga from Bulawayo was involved in an accident in Lubimbi on Friday afternoon.

Police confirmed the accident and said the driver of the bus, Polen Dube will be charged with culpable homicide.

In a statement,  police said two elderly passengers from the 22 were critically injured hence their details could not be immediately captured as they were unable to talk.

They were taken to Hwange Colliery Hospital , where the rest of the injured were also admitted.

Unconfirmed reports said more people had succumbed to injuries on Sunday.

Circumstances are that on 14 April the sole party (Polen Dube) was driving an AVM bus from Bulawayo to Kariangwe along Lubimbi-Kariangwe road. On approaching the 50km peg, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve and the bus veered off the road and overturned and landed on its left side,” said the police.

The driver reportedly jumped out of the fallen bus and fled from the scene. 

Two passengers, both from Binga, died on the spot while 22 others were injured.

The bus, belonging to Dubbies Bus Service was also severely damaged and was expected to be towed to Vehicle Inspection Department Hwange depot.
