MDC-T recalls 2 Vic Falls councillors

Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T has recalled two Victoria Falls councillors accusing them of defying party protocol and siding with rival opposition, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Ward 7 councillor Thuso Moyo and Josepha Dzangai of ward 8 were ordered to vacate their seats which are now vacant following the recall.

“You are hereby advised that the Minister of Local Government and Public Works by minute dated 11 October 2022 informed my office that you have been expelled from the Movement for Democratic Change T (MDC-T) party.

“In terms of Section 278 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section 129(1)(k) the ward is now vacant,” said Town Clerk Ronnie Dube to the two councillors.

Victoria Falls City has 11 wards.

Two years ago Mwonzora recalled Ephias Mambume and Margaret Varley for similar reasons and the duo was replaced early this year through a by-election.

This means that the city is short by three councillors as the mayor Somveli Dlamini who is ward 9 councillor is in remand prison for fraud.

The recall of Moyo and Dzangai means that the two no longer have mandate in the local authority.

MDC-T also expelled them from the party.

Sources within the council said the duo had become ungovernable disregarding any councillor or management during council meetings.

Moyo was chair of the finance committee and presided over land scandals currently facing the local authority which is under fire from its residents.

MDC-T recalled six Binga Rural District Councillors recently for similar reasons.
