Teen charged with murder after stabbing death in Nyamandlovu

Police in Matabeleland North Province have arrested a 16-year-old teenager who fatally stabbed a fellow herd boy in Nyamandlovu following a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue.

It is understood that on 1 February, the now-deceased Theophelus Nkanyiso Ngwenya (18) from Nyamandlovu who was on his way to the grazing area met the 16-year-old and a misunderstanding ensued.

A fight broke out between the two before Ngwenya disarmed the teen who was armed with a kitchen knife. A passerby restrained the two before Ngwenya returned the knife back.

However, as soon as the passerby left the accused went on to stab Ngwenya who had let his guard down once in the stomach.

Matebeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident arguing that they had since arrested the juvenile in connection with the murder.

“Police in Matabeleland North Province confirm the arrest of a male juvenile (16) in connection with a murder case in which Theophelus Nkanyiso Ngwenya (18) succumbed to injuries inflicted on him by the suspect on the 1st day of February 2022 at Gwayi line grazing lands whilst herding cattle. The suspect stabbed the victim on the stomach using a kitchen knife,” said Insp. Banda.
