I am ready to complete the projects I left hanging: Mabuto

Newly-elected Bulawayo Ward 9 councillor, Donaldson Mabuto says he is ready to work with residents to complete some of the projects left hanging following his recall by the MDC-T.

Ward 9 covers Mpopoma and Matshobana suburbs.

The ward is one of those in the city where the newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) had fielded double candidates. However, the other candidate, Bekithemba Nyathi, quickly withdrew his papers.

Mabuto managed to garner 1 679 votes against ZANU-PF’s Lovemore Munyamana who polled 605 votes and the MDC Alliance’s John Gasela Sindela Mhlanga who received 99 votes.

Speaking to CITE, Mabuto thanked the residents of Mpopoma and Matshobana for resoundingly voting for him.

He said he managed to score the highest number of votes in Matshobana due to the “good work” he did on sewer rehabilitation.

“I would like to thank the residents of Mpopoma for resoundingly voting for me in the by-elections. We recorded the highest number of voters in Matshobana’s three polling stations,” said Mabutho.

“I believe this is because of the good work that was done for Matshobana people in rehabilitating their sewer. Also, I would like to thank the residents of Mpopoma and citizens in general for voting for me.”

He said he is going to work on the rehabilitation of some facilities in the Ward.

“I am looking forward to working well with residents and spearheading the completion of outstanding projects which were left hanging when I was recalled from office. The rehabilitation of the Inyathi Youth Center sporting facility is our next project and if time permits and resources permit, we will move to Mpopoma Park where we need to resuscitate the Mpopoma Park train,” he said.

“During the elections, we campaigned very well, we had no challenges, it was peaceful, I have no complaints, the residents knew the leader they wanted and they did exactly that.”
