Man stabs friend to death over a girl

An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death by his friend after they allegedly fought over a girl.

The incident took place in Mpopoma suburb between block 9 and 10 on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Siphesihle Moyo and the accused as 20-year-old Bongani Ngulube, both from the same suburb.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident saying the two had been drinking alcohol together at the local shops around 8 pm before they had a fallout while on their way home.

“On the 3rd of February 2021 at around 2000 hours, the informant was drinking Best Whisky with Bongani Ngulube and Siphesihle Moyo at Bango shops in violation of the Covid-19 regulations specifically curfew,” said Inspector Ncube.

“When they decided to go back to their respective places of residence when the trio was between block 9 and 10 Mpopoma, Moyo and Ngulube had a misunderstanding over a girl.”

He said the Ngulube pulled out an unknown object suspected to be an Okapi knife from his right trousers pocket and stabbed Moyo once below the abdomen, twice on the left hand, the lower and upper part of the arm, cutting the intestines in the process.

“The accused person then fled the scene,” said Inspector Ncube.

“On the 4th of February 2021 at around 0030 hours. Informant made a report of the assault at ZRP West Commonage who attended the scene and the now deceased was taken to Mpilo Hospital for medical treatment where he later passed on.”

Inspector Ncube added that Ngulube  was arrested and is detained at ZRP Western Commonage and investigations are ongoing.

Inspector Ncube urged the members of the public to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations and observe the curfew.

“As police we plead with members of the public not to take the law into their own hands and seek counselling and guidance from community leaders, church elders or visit the nearest police station for counselling. This is a life unnecessarily lost.

“Had the three complied with Covid-19 regulations and observed curfew this could not have happened. People should realize that once you break the law, a lot can follow which can be unfortunate,” he said.
