Diasporans donate to City Of Bulawayo

A group of Zimbabweans living abroad on Tuesday donated protective clothing and sanitisers to the City of Bulawayo.

The donation, which was handed over by the Christian Brothers College (CBC) Old Boys Association on behalf of the donors consisted of 25 litres of sanitisers (the Nustiser – locally sourced from the National University of Science and technology), 80 green bar soaps, 260 medical masks and 30 boxes of gloves.

Accepting the donation at the Large City Hall, Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni, said the goods came at a time when the city is working towards mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

“COVID-19 has disrupted many times lives globally and Zimbabwe has not been spared. Bulawayo has also recorded positive cases meaning there are families who have been affected. It is donations like these that go a long way in helping families and individuals who have been affected by COVID-19,” he said.

The mayor expressed gratitude, saying it was heart-warming that individuals in the Diaspora could make such a contribution to assist Bulawayo.

“We want to thank our brothers and sisters who are out of the country and still think of our wellbeing. They have gone out of their way to source this donation to assist Bulawayo. The gesture of goodwill will surely save lives and make sure there’s success in the fight against COVID-19 in Bulawayo,” he said.

The protective clothing, Clr Mguni, underlined would also assist the city’s frontline’s staff who have been working tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of Bulawayo residents.

“These are the people who put their lives at risk to make sure the spread of this virus is curbed. To our donors, Bulawayo values and welcomes this kind donation, which will surely help Bulawayo be a COVID-19 free zone. It is my hope that we will continue to work together for the well-being and prosperity of our beautiful city. Let me thank the CBC Old Boys Association once again for this generation donation,” said the mayor.
