Theft from cars suspect arrested

Police in Bulawayo have arrested a man in connection with a spate of robberies and theft from motor vehicles.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector, Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of Lindani Enock Moyo (28) of Tshabalala.

“On July 20 at around 1pm, Moyo was spotted at Kelvin West industrial site by one of the complainants while he was about to break into his vehicle in company of three others who are still at large,” said Insp Ncube.

“The complainant who was armed with a pistol gun confronted the accused persons who jumped into their silver Honda fit without rear number plates and bolted away.”

Ncube said the complainant gave chase, fired warning shots and the getaway vehicle was shot above the rear left wheel.

“The complainant filed a report at ZRP Western Commonage police, on the same day at around 3pm along 13th Avenue between Herbert Chitepo and Lobengula street, Officers from Drill Hall traffic were on patrol and noticed the Honda Fit without number plates parked,” said Insp Ncube.

“Officers developed interest, as they went to check, three suspects ran away after they spotted the officers and Moyo was arrested.”

Insp Ncube said the police officers searched the vehicle and found dangerous drugs such as dagga and some car breaking implements.

“Upon searching the vehicle police found dangerous drugs (imbanje) and car breaking implements and there were two different number plates ADM 8101 and AEV 3249 further investigations revealed that the vehicle was registered under ADM 8101 by the original owner. It was involved in an accident and taken by an insurance company as a right off,” said Insp Ncube.

“The insurance company sold the vehicle but the new owner continued using the car with the plates unchanged. Moyo is facing numerous cases of theft from motor vehicles, being found in possession of dangerous drugs and implements used to commit offences. He will appear in court soon.”

Ncube warned members of the public against driving any vehicle without number plates as they are at risk of being arrested and their vehicles impounded.
