Suspect in court for shebeen murder
Police in Bulawayo have arrested a man who allegedly fatally stabbed a fellow Shebeen patron in a dispute over a woman.
A court heard that Mpilwenhle Ngwenya (32) of Insiza went to a Shebeen in Emganwini in the company of his friend, Vincent Mpofu.
A misunderstanding allegedly ensued between Mpofu and the now deceased Nkosana Chipepera over a woman identified as Thandolwenkosi Nkomo whom they both claimed was their girlfriend.
Ngwenya appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Stephen Ndlovu facing a murder charge and remanded him in court to June 7.
He was not asked to plead to the charge but was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Representing the State, Hazel Ncube narrated that on April 19, 2021, at around 02:40 am Ngwenya, Mpofu and Chipepera were at a Shebeen in Emganwini when an argument ensued over Nkomo.
“An argument ensued between the two and as Chapepera stood up, Ngwenya stabbed him once on the chest with a sharp object and he died instantly. Ngwenya and his friend Mpofu fled from the scene.”
Ncube said fellow patrons who were present at the Shebeen on the fateful day positively identified Ngwenya during an identification parade.
