Snakebite victim appeals for assistance
The family of a 16-year-old girl from Ntunungu, Plumtree who was bitten by a Cobra snake on her hand last month is appealing for financial assistance to pay off the hospital bill.
Rebecca Ngwenya was bitten by the vernomous snake on her left hand while she was sleeping.
At first, the family tried to treat the wound with natural herbs until they decided to take her to the hospital as she was not getting better.
She was later sent to Plumtree District Hospital for treatment and she accummulated a debt of US$66.
Speaking to CITE, Rebecca’s father, Petros Ngwenya said her daughter was only admitted at Plumtree Hospital on 10 December.
“I live in Nkayi and following our breakup , Rebecca’s mother took the children to Plumtree where they live with their grandmother. I was informed that my daughter was bitten by a snake on her left hand,” said Ngwenya.
Ngwenya was later referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for further management.
“ She was admitted at UBH but I was forced to remove my daughter from hospital as I could not afford hospital bills as there is another bill at Plumtree Hospital, so we couldn’t afford for her to be admitted,” he said.
He appealed for assistance to pay off the US$66 hospital bill.
