Malaria accounted for the highest number of disease-related deaths in Zimbabwe during the week ending 30 November 2025, with six fatalities and 519 new cases recorded, according to the latest Weekly Disease Surveillance Report.

The deaths were reported in Mbire and Mount Darwin districts in Mashonaland Central Province, Mutare District in Manicaland, Sanyati District in Mashonaland West, Beitbridge District in Matabeleland South, and at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare.

Children under the age of five accounted for 60 cases, representing 11.6 percent of reported malaria infections. Manicaland (167 cases) and Mashonaland Central (154 cases) recorded the highest numbers. Cumulatively, 156,529 malaria cases and 435 deaths have been reported nationwide.

Common diarrhoea remained the most prevalent disease during the same period, with 5,402 new cases and two deaths recorded. The fatalities were reported from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare Metropolitan Province. Children under five were the most affected, accounting for 2,287 cases (42 percent). Mashonaland West (799 cases) and Mashonaland Central (773 cases) recorded the highest numbers. Since the beginning of the year, 317,023 cases and 166 deaths have been reported.

Suspected influenza continued to spread widely, with 4,809 new cases and no deaths reported. Manicaland Province recorded the highest number of cases (1,730), followed by Mashonaland West (1,384). Cumulative figures now stand at 316,064 cases and seven deaths.

A total of 716 dog bite cases were recorded during the week, with no deaths reported. The highest numbers were reported in Mashonaland West (106 cases) and Manicaland (101 cases). Cumulatively, 25,155 dog bite cases and three deaths have been recorded.

Meanwhile, six anthrax cases and no deaths were reported from Gokwe North (five cases) and Gokwe South (one case) districts in Midlands Province. Since the beginning of the year, 195 anthrax cases have been recorded nationwide, with no fatalities.

Dysentery cases remained steady, with 315 new cases and no deaths reported. The highest numbers were recorded in Manicaland (67 cases), Mashonaland Central (65) and Mashonaland West (57). Cumulatively, 16,040 cases and six deaths have been reported.
