Covid-19: 56 more people die as third wave rages

The Covid-19 third wave continues to rage in Zimbabwe after it claimed 56 more lives while 2 156 new confirmed cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Harare accounted for most of the deaths with 31 while Mashonaland West recorded six deaths.

In its latest Covid-19 update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported that over 600 people have been hospitalised.

“As of 7 July 2021, at 1500 hours there were 633 hospitalised cases: New admissions 96, Asymptomatic 161, mild to moderate 380, severe 65 and 27 in intensive care units,” read the report.

On new infections, Mashonaland East recorded the highest with 327 followed by Mashonaland West with 312 cases.

Harare recorded 278 new cases, Masvingo 264 new cases, Bulawayo 203 cases, Mashonaland Central 197 cases and Manicaland 147 new cases.

Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South recorded 123 and 109 news cases, respectively.

As of 8 July, 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 62 383 confirmed cases, 42 855 recoveries and 2 029 deaths.
