Covid-19: Zim records 2845 new cases, 38 deaths

Covid-19 cases continue to shoot up countrywide after 2 845 people tested positive in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative infection tally to 48 102.

38 deaths were also recorded bringing the total number of deaths to 2 274.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care, in its latest daily Covid-19 report, noted that all the new cases are local transmissions. 

“Mashonaland West recorded the highest number of new infections at 496. Harare was second with 468. Mashonaland East had 377 while Manicaland had 366,” read the report. 

“Masvingo had 280 new infections, Matabeleland North 246, Mashonaland Central 206, Midlands 166, Matabeleland South 151 and Bulawayo recorded the least with 119 cases.”

The report further highlighted that 470 people were hospitalised as of yesterday, with 116 new admissions, 112 asymptomatic cases, 300 mild to moderate, 40 severe ones and 18 in Intensive Care Units.

“To date 955 656 have received their first dosage of the vaccine and 619 883 have received their second dose.

“13 811 PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. As of 13 July 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 73 271 cases, 48 102 recoveries and 2 274 deaths.”
