Police launch manhunt for serial robber
Police in Bulawayo have launched a manhunt for a suspected serial carjacker Edmore Zinyoro over a spate of robberies in the city and in other parts of the country.
Zinyoro who usually moves around with a team of four or more accomplices armed with axes and knives.
In a statement, the police said in the latest incident Zinyoro and his accomplices robbed a man of his Honda Fit vehicle along the Inyathi-Bulawayo highway which was tracked to Zinyoro’s house in Kwekwe.
“He was in the company of five unknown male accomplices at the green bus stop near Nkenyane area which is along the Inyathi- Bulawayo highway in Bubi District. The accused and his accomplices hired the complainant to ferry them to Bulawayo,” said Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube.
He said when the gang reached Bulawayo they connived and robbed the complainant of his motor vehicle at knifepoint.
“When the gang reached Bulawayo, they then connived and robbed the complainant of his motor vehicle at knifepoint around midnight at corner Robert Mugabe Way and 1st avenue Bulawayo just opposite Bulawayo prison. They drove along Bulawayo-Harare highway and subsequently dumped him along Rosetta road in Montgomery Bulawayo which branches off from Harare road”.
Inspector Ncube added that the accused tied the complainant’s legs and hands with a car seat belt and drove away.
He said a few days after the robbery, police received information from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) in Bulawayo that the stolen vehicle was spotted at Zinyoro’s house in Kwekwe.
“A follow-up was made leading to the recovery of the vehicle at his place but the accused person could not be located,” said the police spokesperson.
He added that Zinyoro is also wanted for other similar cases which he committed around Bulawayo and other parts of the country.
“While efforts to locate the accused person at his last known address and other places were fruitless his whereabouts are currently not known and his last known whereabouts were in Chinhoyi,” said Inspector Ncube.
