Nkulumane man murdered, body dumped in trench

A man from Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb was gruesomely murdered before his naked body was dumped in a sewer trench close to his home.

Mduduzi Ngwenya (42) was found lying naked by a passer-by, Monday, who made an anonymous call to the police.

According to the police, Ngwenya`s body had stab wounds and deep cuts on the forehead and chin, as well as bruises on the neck and around the chest.

His clothes were found stashed at a house nearby.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the tragic incident.

“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of murder which occurred on December 14 in Nkulumane suburb. The now-deceased left his wife on Sunday night at 11PM and went to an unknown destination. A passerby made an anonymous call to the police around 7 AM on Monday to report the dead body,” said Insp Ncube.

“Observations made by the police who attended the scene were that the now deceased’s body was lying naked in a sewerage trench. He had stab wounds on the forehead and on the chin. He also had three deep cuts on the forehead and bruises on the neck and around his chest.”

Insp Ncube said his clothes were found dumped inside a yard close to the scene.

A source who spoke to CITE on condition of anonymity alleged that Ngwenya had an argument with his wife prior to him storming out of the house.

The source said Ngwenya proceeded to a shebeen close to his home, where his clothes were found after his murder.

“Ngwenya had a dispute with his wife. He then went to a shebeen closeby. When he got there he gambled and won some money then left to go back home,” said the source.

“We suspect that the murder could have emanated from the gambling. What is more astonishing is that his clothes were found at that particular house. Maybe the people responsible were trying to divert attention. But we hope that whoever did this will be found and brought to justice.”

Insp Ncube appealed to members of the public with information pertaining to the callous murder to report to the police.

“We appeal to anyone with information that may assist the police to contact any nearest police station. As the police, we also want to appeal to our members of the public to respect the right to life and stop killing one another for whatever reason. As we enter into the festive season we also appeal to people to avoid situations and places that are not safe for them,” Insp Ncube said.
