Police arrest two suspected armed robbers
Police manning a roadblock along the Bulawayo-Nkayi road, Wednesday, intercepted and arrested two suspected armed robbers who had allegedly committed a crime in Inyathi.
The suspects have been identified as Munyaradzi Zvandaziva Gande (21) of Marondera and Tawana Nyasha Ndlovu (18) of Gutu.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest.
“The Bulawayo metropolitan central traffic had a roadblock at the 16km peg along Bulawayo-Nkayi road from 1300 hrs to 1700hours. On the same day, the police stopped a Toyota Vitz which was coming from Inyathi towards Bulawayo. The vehicle was driven by the informant who upon stopping at the roadblock advised the police that he had received a call from police in Inyathi that some of his passengers had committed a robbery in the Inyathi area,” said Inspector Ncube.
He said as the informant was still talking to the police, the three suspects disembarked from the vehicle and ran into a nearby bush.
“The police tracked them and managed to arrest two suspects. The third suspect was not located,” he said.
Inspector Ncube said the police searched the suspects’ two bags and recovered a 9mm Kuzey 911SX pistol with an empty magazine in one of the bags.
“An electric shocker and two Samsung cellphones without Sim cards were also recovered from the other bag,”he said.
Inspector Ncube said the two suspects, the pistol, the electric shocker and the two cellphones were handed over to CID homicide Bulawayo for further management.
“This arrest prevented possible cases of armed robbery as the suspects we’re heading into the central business district.”
