Police arrest 10 juveniles at a vuzu party

Ten juveniles, nine of them learners at two Bulawayo schools were arrested at a house in Malindela suburb for hosting a vuzu party.

Vuzu parties are social events where youths, mostly teenagers, engage in alcohol-drinking sprees, drug abuse and sex orgies.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube revealed that the group consisted of six learners from Milton High School and three learners from Evelyn High School, with one being a school leaver.

“On the 25th of January 2024 at around 9 am, police received a tip-off that there was a Vuzu Party at house number 12 Browning Road, Malindela. Upon arrival at the said house, police interviewed a male Juvenile aged 14 years residing at that same address who was found standing outside the main house. He revealed that he is a Form 2 pupil at Milton High. He then directed police to the cottage where they found 7 more students from ages of 14 to 16 years and one school leaver a 17-year-old boy who were busy smoking Shisha and Chelsea Cigarettes as well as playing soft music,” he said.

Inspector Ncube said the police were informed that the group were celebrating a friend’s birthday.

“The occupant of the house who is the father of one of the students said that he was not aware of Vuzu parties happening at his place as he spends the whole day in town as he is a Vendor,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said the students were released under the custody of their senior teachers.

Inspector Ncube urged parents and guardians to speak to their children about the dangers of drugs.

“We would like to appreciate members of the public for supplying such valid information which led to the arrest of the accused persons. The quick reaction by the police saved the lives of the students from further decay,” he said.
