Renowned Bulawayo gospel musician Pholani Ngwenya has launched a deeply spiritual album titled Talk to Me, revealing how personal struggles, his faith journey and reliance on Jesus Christ shaped the project, which took nearly four years to complete.

Addressing guests at the album launch held in Maunga, Emakhandeni, Bulawayo, on Friday, Ngwenya said the album was inspired by the Word of God and reflects the realities of living a Christian life in challenging times.

“For me to produce this album, I was inspired by the Word of God. The album is called Talk to Me, and it touches my soul. It reminds us that there is nowhere to go without the help of Jesus Christ. This album is not just music; it is a spiritual message meant to remind people that without Jesus Christ, life becomes directionless,” said Ngwenya.

Ngwenya opened up about the challenges he faced during production, particularly financial constraints and difficulties in finding the right producer.

“For this album to be successful, I went through many challenges, especially in securing funding. Studio time requires money, and it was very difficult to find a producer who could understand my artistry. Eventually, I found one,” he said.

Despite these obstacles, Ngwenya said his faith sustained him, and the production process became part of his spiritual growth.

“This album reflects the growth of my faith, and it is meant to inspire other believers to strengthen theirs. Whatever situation they may face, Jesus Christ is always there to help,” he said.

He added that the album title Talk to Me carries deep personal meaning, emphasising the importance of constant communication with God.

“The title reflects that the Lord should always speak to us, and whatever a person sings must come from Jesus,” said Ngwenya.

Ngwenya also explained that the long gap between this album and his previous release was largely due to financial challenges.

“The album took a very long time to make. My last album was released in 2020, and the biggest challenge was finding the money to produce this one,” he said.

He used the occasion to encourage the public to remain faithful despite life’s hardships.

“My message is for people to always have faith in Jesus and not be consumed by worldly things. We know that some are sick and others are going through difficult times, but they must always believe in Jesus Christ and keep their faith strong,” said Ngwenya.

Speaking about his musical journey, Ngwenya said his sound blends traditional music with gospel, creating a culturally rooted and spiritually uplifting style.

“My music is a mixture of traditional sounds and gospel. I have had a passion for music since 2001. Music is a way of preaching the gospel. I released my first album in 2004,” he said.
