A Nyamandlovu man was reportedly murdered and buried in a shallow grave at a homestead in Deli Village in Matabeleland North.

The body was discovered on Monday morning nearly a week after the suspected killing.

Local villagers say the victim was last seen alive last Tuesday. His body was found in a garden at a homestead where three suspects had reportedly been staying.

“There was a strong smell and signs of freshly dug soil. That’s when we found the body,” one villager said.

Fearing the suspects were armed, villagers had kept their distance from the homestead for several days. On the sixth day, some residents entered the yard and uncovered the grave.

The suspects, including the homeowner, are believed to have fled the area. Unconfirmed reports suggest they may have been spotted at nearby mining sites.

“We alerted the police days ago, but they have not shown up. We feel abandoned,” another villager said.

When contacted for comment, Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda stated that, no level of provocation justifies homicide because everyone has the right to life.

“Where people fail to agree over some issues, they have to approach community leaders, clerics or the police for help and guidance,” said Banda.

He further warned that those who break the law will be held accountable.

“We would like to warn those who choose to defy the Law that the day of reckoning will always come and justice will take its course,” said Banda.
