Newborn baby found abandoned in park in stable condition
The newly born baby boy who was found abandoned in New Lobengula recreational park in Bulawayo on Sunday is in stable condition, Mpilo Central Hospital public relations officer sister Noma Mabhena has confirmed.
The baby was found naked with his umbilical cord attached.
Speaking to CITE, Sister Mabhena said his condition might however change due to other factors.
“The child is very stable but the condition can change anytime considering the place where he was found. He was found near a sewage stream so some conditions might not be detected at the moment, otherwise for now he is very stable, which can change anytime. He was cold where he was found and so pneumonia and other infections might affect him but for now, he is fine,” said Mabhena.
Meanwhile, Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele appealed for information that will lead to the arrest of the mother who dumped the baby.
“Children were playing at the park and they heard a baby crying near where they were playing, they went home and reported to their parents that there was a child crying at the park. The parents went to check and they discovered that there was a day or two-day-old baby dumped at the park,’ said Assistant Inspector Msebele.
She said the residents had to wrap the baby with a blanket and they took him to a police station where he was later taken to Mpilo Hospital.
“As police, we are looking for information that can lead to the arrest of the mother who dumped the child and we encourage families and communities to support the youths when they fall pregnant.
“We are also appealing to the community to come up with information if they noticed someone who was pregnant without a child, they should inquire what would have happened to the child,” she said.
