Mpopoma residents to get pharmacy

Following several appeals from Mpopoma residents for a pharmacy, the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has approved the construction of the facility at the local clinic.

The construction of the pharmacy has started taking place at Mpopoma Clinic and is a project spearheaded by Ward 9 councillor, Donaldson Mabuto.

Mabuto told CITE that the pharmacy will spare residents, in particular senior citizens, the agony of trips to town whenever served with a medical doctor’s prescription.

“The construction of the pharmacy started last week and is aimed at empowering the underprivileged and this is leadership in action. I have managed to provide leadership that delivers tangibles in Mpopoma Ward 9. I have clearly demonstrated that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is not a party of false promises,” he claimed.

The councillor said delivering on health issues was a “blessed act” to do for all the residents regardless of political affiliation.

“We serve all people without regard to political, religious or other differences. This is one tangible thing that I will boast about when I leave the office,” Mabuto said.

Construction of the pharmacy is funded by BCC in collaboration with a developmental partner that preferred anonymity, according to the councillor.

The councillor said to complement the pharmacy he was also spearheading the building of a ‘special’ toilet to cater for People With Disabilities (PWD) at Mpopoma Clinic.

“An erected ramp will cater for PWDs especially those who are visually impaired, use wheelchairs or crutches,” Mabuto said.

He noted that builders are expected to complete their work by June 30, 2023.

“I will continue to develop Mpopoma (Ward 9) and will do more when CCC becomes a government. For now, as a council we are constricted by the centralised system of Zanu PF that controls central government,” Councillor Mabuto said.
