The City of Bulawayo has warned residents of potential water supply disruptions following damage to the Inyankuni pipeline by a mining company, which has reduced raw water delivery from Inyankuni Dam to the city.

Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the disruption was caused by an incident on Friday, 26 December 2025, when an excavator operated by a mining company accidentally damaged a section of the Inyankuni pipeline.

He said damage has affected raw water delivery to Ncema Water Treatment Works, significantly reducing the city’s pumping capacity.

“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise residents and stakeholders of interruptions in water supply due to reduced pumping capacity and raw water delivery from the Inyankuni Dam. This follows an incident where an excavator by a mining company accidentally damaged a section of the Inyankuni pipeline,” Dube said in a statement on Monday, .

“The Incident occurred on Friday, 26 December 2025 affecting the raw water delivery to Ncema Water Treatment Works thereby reducing the City’s raw water pumping capacity.”

Dube said the City of Bulawayo has temporarily suspended raw water pumping from Inyankuni as efforts are being made to urgently restore the pipeline to functionality.

“Residents and stakeholders are advised that this may result in water supply disruptions across the City as the pipeline rehabilitation works are underway. The works are expected to be completed on Wednesday, 31 December 2025,” he said.

Dube apologised for any inconvenience likely to be caused and encourages residents to use water sparingly during this period.
