Magistrate denies bail for Luveve murder suspect

A 36-year-old Bulawayo man who was on the wanted list for double murder and for escaping from the Beitbridge quarantine centre has been arraigned at Western Commonage Magistrate’s Court.

Mandla Moyo (also known as Mafifty) of Entumbane suburb, briefly appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Gladmore Mushowe facing a charge of murdering one Nkosilathi Ndlovu of Luveve suburb.

The court heard Moyo allegedly stabbed Ndlovu once on the left side of chest with a sharp object.

Magistrate Mushowe remanded Moyo in custody to July 30.

For the State, Kenneth Shava, narrated that on July 11, Moyo proceeded to Ndlovu’s place of residence in Luveve.

Shava said the now deceased Ndlovu spotted Moyo stealing his cellphone which was in his bedroom and when he confronted him about the matter a misunderstanding ensued.

“The now deceased Ndlovu accused Moyo of stealing his cellphone from his bedroom. When he confronted him, Moyo insisted that Ndlovu owed him money for tennis shoes he had taken from him and had not yet paid for,” Shava said.

The State argued that Moyo be remanded in custody as he was a flight risk.

The state also noted that due to the gravity of the matter, Moyo’s life was in danger from the relatives of the deceased and from members of the public.

It is alleged that before murdering Nkosilathi, Moyo boasted that he had killed his landlord in South Africa.

He is reported to have also severely assaulted his girlfriend and a relative who are both based in the neighbouring country.
