Zimbabwe’s longest-running urban culture event, Shoko Festival, is marking its 15th anniversary in style this September with a star-studded line-up of performers set to headline the milestone edition.
Leading the bill is award-winning comedian King Kandoro, who returns to the local stage after an acclaimed international tour. His performance is expected to be one of the most anticipated moments of the festival, bringing sharp satire and relatable humour to a home audience.
Joining him is Zim Hip Hop sensation Bagga, who will treat fans to live performances from his upcoming project, scheduled for release just weeks before the festival. The artist has steadily risen to prominence and is expected to draw a large crowd of hip hop enthusiasts.
Also on the main stage is 2024 Zim Hip Hop Best Newcomer award winner Runna Rulez, whose high-energy performances and lyrical flair have quickly earned him a loyal fanbase. The line-up further features Madedido, a Zim Dancehall artist credited with shaping a new urban sound, and chart-topping performer Jnr Spragga, who has gone viral with his hit single “MaRulez.”
This year’s edition runs from 25 to 27 September in Harare and Chitungwiza under the theme “The Legacy XV.” It celebrates 15 years of championing free expression, alternative art, and urban culture in Zimbabwe.
Festival coordinator Vera Chisvo described the line-up as a celebration of “both legacy and future.”
“These headline acts reflect the power of urban culture to entertain, challenge, and unite communities. Shoko is a platform where underground talent meets global impact,” she said.
In addition to the performances, Comedy Night and Mash Up Nights will return with dynamic programming. Advance tickets are already available, with combo passes to both nights selling for $20.
Shoko Festival 2025 will close with Peace in the Hood, a free-entry show held at Chitungwiza’s Unit L Grounds, which annually attracts thousands and highlights the festival’s community-driven ethos.
Organised by Magamba Network, Shoko Festival has grown into a major cultural platform that spotlights voices at the intersection of arts, activism, and digital innovation.
More headline acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
