Kenya to hold a re-run on 17 October 2017
According to ย Kenya’s electoral commission, the country’s new presidential elections will take place on October 17, after the country’s Supreme Court nullified the result of the August 8ย presidential electionย won by President ย Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a statement released by theย Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), ย there shall be no fresh nominations in the envisaged fresh elections.
Honourable Raila Odinga and his running mate Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Honorable Uhuru Kenyattaย and his running mate Hon. William Sanoeiย Ruto shall be the only candidates.
Kenya’s Supreme Courtย Judge David Maraga had ruled that the election commission “failed, neglected or refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the Constitution”, hence a re-run.
