A Matabeleland North provincial court prosecutor and office administrator are believed to have died on the spot, while other passengers sustained injuries when a vehicle they were travelling in burst a tyre and veered off the road, Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at the 60-kilometre peg in Insuza.
The deceased, both based in Hwange, were identified as Maseko the prosecutor and Maundura an office administrator at the Hwange Magistrate’s court.
The vehicle was destined for Bulawayo where the travelling party was believed to be on their way to attend a wedding.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the accident although she said details were still sketchy.
“The accident happened just after 10 AM at the 60-kilometre peg from Bulawayo. l have spoken to Lupane police officers, but they have not yet sent details as they are still at the scene, therefore, l cannot give you many details but we understand they were going to attend a wedding,”
“We have also tried to communicate with other survivors, but their phones are with the nurses, so we will have full details once our officers get all the information. What l can confirm is that two females died on the spot while others were injured.”
However, a source who spoke to CITE said the two government employees died on the spot.
“They were driving an Isuzu KB300 and it burst its tyre before rolling several times and due to impact, Maseko and Maundura died immediately,” said a source privy to the details.
It could not be immediately ascertained where the injured are receiving treatment.
This is a developing story, more details to come.
