Zim Covid-19 hospitalisations decline

The country’s Covid-19 hospitalisations which hovered between 700 and 900 at the peak of the third wave last month have since declined to just over 400, statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care have shown.

Zimbabwe has to date recorded a total of 121, 046 Covid-19 infections including 514 new cases registered yesterday.

“As of 16 August 2021, at 1500 hours there were 456 hospitalised cases,” said the Ministry of Health in its daily update late Monday.

The Ministry said there were 51 new admissions recorded Monday adding 37 Covid patients were in the Intensive Care Units.

On Tuesday, 18 people succumbed to the pandemic bringing the cumulative total of coronavirus fatalities to 4, 156.

Recoveries stand at 100, 211 while active cases are 16, 679.

Of the 8, 159 tests carried out yesterday, the positivity rate stood at 6, 3 percent while the national recovery rate has since risen to 83 percent.

The covid-19 situation is significantly improving in the country at a time when the government is intensifying its vaccination drive with 2, 145, 537 people having received their first jab while the figure for the fully vaccinated Zimbabweans now stands at 1, 304, 802. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has kept the country under the tightened level four measures.

Under the current lockdown measures, businesses operate from 0800 hours and close at 1530hours with intercity movement being prohibited, except for production and distribution of food and medicine.

Commercial transport remains operational to allow the economy to continue to run, but under strict observance of Covid-19 protocols.

Meanwhile fully vaccinated believers have been given a go ahead to resume religious gatherings.
