Police in Bulawayo have arrested a man who was on the wanted list for double murder and for escaping from the Beitbridge quarantine centre.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of Mandla Moyo (36) of Entumbane on Tuesday.

Moyo allegedly fatally stabbed Nkosilathi Ndlovu (31) of Luveve Suburb on Saturday at around 7.30PM after the deceased caught him stealing a cellphone.

It is alleged that before murdering Nkosilathi, Moyo boasted that he killed his landlord in South Africa.

He is reported to have also severely assaulted his girlfriend and a relative who are based in the neighbouring country.

Inspector Ncube said Moyo was arrested after being spotted near Northlea High School by detectives from Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

“I can confirm that police on Tuesday, July 14 we arrested Mandla Moyo of Entumbane for a case of murder, CID officers received a tip-off that he was loitering near Northlea High School and acted upon the information which led to his arrest,” he said.

“Moyo who was also known as MaFifyty went to the now-deceased place Nkosilathi Ndlovu in Luveve on the pretext that he was looking for a tenant who lived there at around 7 pm.”

Insp Ncube said Moyo requested to use the toilet, but instead went into the deceased’s bedroom.

“The deceased allegedly observed Moyo from a window reflection stealing his phone, a wallet and some groceries including cooking oil and body cream, which he stuffed in a big coat that he was wearing,” said Ncube.

“When the deceased went to confront him, Moyo pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen before fleeing into the night. Ndlovu died moments later from excessive bleeding.”

Inspector Ncube urged members for the public to report people who would have entered the country illegally without passing to proper channels in order to avoid such incidents.

“The number of people entering the country illegally is still increasing. l advise members of the public to report such people and also those who escape from quarantine centres.”
