Villagers in Godlwayo2, Ward 19 of Umzingwane District, have joined hands with the Veterinary Department to construct a new dip tank, easing the burden of livestock management in the area.

According to community member Mr. Moyo, the initiative was sparked by the challenges posed by the old dip tank, which was located about five kilometres away. “It was especially difficult for elderly villagers to take their cattle for dipping,” he said.

The project began in May 2023 under the coordination of the Godlwayo2 Development Committee. Committee member Council Mhlanga said villagers contributed materials such as cement, while the Veterinary Department played a key role in selecting the site.

“Despite initial concerns about resources, the collective effort and dedication of the community made this possible,” he explained.

Veterinary officers, including Enat Mdlongwa and Bekithemba Dube, worked closely with villagers throughout the construction.

One villager noted that the absence of a nearby dip tank had caused significant cattle losses last year due to disease outbreaks.

Village Head Albert Nyathi expressed gratitude to the Veterinary Department for their ongoing support.

“They have been helpful and continue to monitor our progress,” he said.

The dip tank is almost complete, with only the roofing outstanding. The community is now appealing for donor support to finish the project and officially launch the facility.
