Gift Banda’s alleged forgery case postponed

The case involving former Bulawayo Deputy Mayor and businessman Gift Banda, who is facing charges of forging an Ordinary Level certificate, has been postponed to 13 January 2025.

At the time of the alleged offense, Banda was seeking to contest the vice-presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). However, he failed to make it onto the final nomination list.

Court documents reveal that the issue arose when Banda allegedly submitted a forged certificate, which was a prerequisite for the position he was pursuing.

Banda appeared before Bulawayo Western Commonage Magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze for routine remand. He is being represented by Everson Chatambudza of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners.

State representative Milton Moyo told the court that Banda requested his Ordinary Level results slip from Mpopoma High School, claiming he sat for the examination in 1986.

Moyo alleged that Banda approached Acting Headmistress Sihle Sibanda for confirmation of his results, but the slip could not be found. A fortnight later, Banda reportedly informed Sibanda that he had located his results slip. However, investigations revealed that the center and candidate numbers on the slip belonged to someone else—Sino Gumbo.
