Fugitive killer ex-cop arrested in Mozambique

Former police detective Jaison Muvevi, who is wanted for the murder of three people in Wedza, was arrested on Monday, ending a drama-filled three-day hunt by the police.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirms that the murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi, has been arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique this morning (Monday),” he said.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana added that Muvevi was arrested after he had hijacked a biker at gunpoint in Manica.

Muvevi was wanted in connection with the murder of a self-styled prophet identified by the police as 62-year-old Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine known as Madzibaba Sirage.

He also fatally shot Officer in Charge of Wedza police station Inspector Maxwell Hove and 20-year-old Munashe Mujanhi who was employed as a bartender at Mukamba Business Centre.

He also shot and seriously wounded a police officer during a shootout.

Nyathi also applauded the “bilateral relations with Mozambican police” for assisting in apprehending the fugitive.
