Four vendors struck by hit-and-run driver
Bulawayo Police are investigating a case of a hit and run which left four vendors from Cowdray Park hospitalised.
The incident happened on Monday at around 7 pm at the popular signpost.
Speaking to CITE, Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the driver was speeding and he lost control of the vehicle.
“This guy was speeding and he lost control, then he knocked four vendors who were by the side of the road at around 7 pm,” said Inspector Ncube.
“He tried to speed away but he was blocked by people and he then dumped the vehicle and ran on foot.”
Inspector Ncube said the four vendors were rushed to Mpilo hospital where they are receiving treatment.
“The four vendors were taken to Mpilo Hospital where they are receiving treatment and investigations are being done to account for this driver since they left the vehicle whose owner is known. He is going to be traced through that and he is going to be charged for negligence driving,” he said.
Inspector Ncube urged members of the public to be cautious when driving.
“We urge people to be cautious on the road because once one becomes reckless you cost people’s lives, people should know that a motor vehicle is more dangerous than a firearm because it is capable of killing several people at once.
“It is very dangerous. It needs people who apply their minds properly to the vehicle and driving under the normal circumstances, conducive environment including the driver being licenced even though we are yet to prove whether the driver was licensed or not,” said Inspector Ncube.
