Fire victims appeal for help
Two days after a devastating fire swept gutted their home and destroyed all their property, a family in Bellevue suburb in Bulawayo is appealing to the public to help them rebuild their home.
The house caught fire on Monday in one of the rooms where the children were preparing a meal on a gas stove.
No one was harmed during the incident.
When a CITE news crew visited the house on Wednesday afternoon, it was a sombre atmosphere as tenants, friends, and neighbours were helping to clear the debris from the house.
Roy Kangayi, a cousin to the owner of the house, said he was away in Maphisa when the incident took place.
“I was away in Maphisa when I received a call from my son informing that the house had caught fire. It started in this room which the children used as their seating room before it spread to one of the bedrooms,” said Kangayi as he showed the newscrew the extent of the damage.
“There was a gas tank near the sofa and it exploded and it spread to the other rooms, we had many cardboards and that could have made the fire spread faster.”
He said they are currently sleeping at a local church as they have nowhere to stay.
He appealed for timber and asbestos so they can repair the roof of the house.
Those willing to assist the family can get in touch with Kangayi on 0772 984 428 or visit the family at number 71 Gladstone, Bellevue.
