A 34-year-old woman from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo allegedly murdered her husband and two children after accusing her husband of failing to provide for the familyโ€™s needs.

According to police, the woman, Happiness Chimbangu, initially threatened to take her own life because her husband, Edwin Chimbangu, was allegedly subjecting her and her two minor children to acute poverty.

She later fatally stabbed her family members.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the triple murder case.

โ€œWe are investigating a murder case where a woman murdered her family. The husband was 35 years old, one child was four years old, and the other child was a 7-month-old infant,โ€ she said.

โ€œOn Wednesday morning, Happiness went to her motherโ€™s house to complain about how her husband was failing to provide for their family. She returned in the afternoon and told her mother that she wanted to commit suicide, asking her to look after her children when she died.โ€

Assistant Inspector Msebele said later that night, around 10 PM, Edwin called his mother-in-law, asking her to come and talk to Happiness who continued threatening to commit suicide.

The mother-in-law was accompanied by two churchmates and provided counseling services until after midnight.

Assistant Inspector Msebele said around 2 AM, Happiness went to her motherโ€™s churchmate who lived near her house and confessed that she had murdered her husband and children.

โ€œUpon arrival at the scene, the infant was found lying next to her father on the bed, while the four-year-old was lying on a mattress. They all had deep cut injuries from the attack. A metal digger, which was used as the murder weapon, was recovered near the door covered in bloodstains.โ€
