The police have busted a syndicate specialising in creating fake drivers licences after arresting a 21-year-old Pumula East woman.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector, Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of Sibongumusa Racheal Ncube (21) of Pumula East.
The syndicate which reportedly involves officers from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) was charging US$100 for a Class Two licences and US$85 for a Class Four licence.
“On July 5 at around 9am, police received a tip off to the effect that Ncube was facilitating the issuance of fake driver’s licenses charging US$100 for class two and US$85 for class four to the needy general public,” said Insp Ncube.
“On July 6 at around 7am an officer’s team swiftly reacted to the tip off, they set up an appointment with Ncube disguising themselves as one of her clients who wanted to acquire a driver’s licence and upon meeting her and she was immediately arrested.”
Insp Ncube said it was established that over 10 driver’s licenses were processed and issued through her syndicate.
“A search was conducted at Ncube’s place, three national registration cards photocopies, passport size photos of three different people were recovered including fake license disks belonging to Ginetha Ncube and Peter Ndlovu which were issued in February 2017,” said Ncube.
“Ncube confirmed she collects money and personal details from clients and sends them to Dexter Pambirei of Masvingo who in turn coordinates with Active Mobhiri who is said to be working at the central vehicle registry in Harare in processing the licenses.”
Insp Ncube said Pambirei and Mobhiri are yet to be arrested as investigations are in progress.
