FACTCHECK: Did Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information post pictures of a different event?

Claim: Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, tweeted that 15 high schools in Mashonaland Central had manufactured sanitisers, face masks and medical gowns, as contributions against the COVID-19 fight.

Verdict: Mangwana misrepresented facts, at least about one of the pictures, one of the three pictures, Mangwana posted was not from the schools in Mashonaland Central. Instead the picture was of a portable ventilator and face shields donated to Ekusileni Medical Centre in Bulawayo on Wednesday 06 May 2020

The permanent secretary said products were from the display show held by the 15 schools in Mashonaland Central. Check his tweet below:

But, one of the three pictures, Mangwana posted was not from the schools in Mashonaland Central.

Instead the picture was of a portable ventilator and face shields donated to Ekusileni Medical Centre in Bulawayo on Wednesday 06 May 2020

The pictures of the same product taken by CITE showing the donated goods made to Ekusileni Medical Centre in Bulawayo.

CITE covered the donation handover and took pictures of the goods that were donated by wellwishers to Ekusileni hospital since it was identified as a national referral centre for COVID-19 treatment.

The hospital received its first three portable ventilators from Alliance Health, an administrator for medical aid and medical insurance.

Alliance Health also donated personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers at the institution.
