‘Drunk’ cop headbutts Nyaradzo bus driver
A police officer stationed at Mzilikazi Police Station in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of assaulting a Nyaradzo Funeral Services driver who was picking up mourners at Ross Camp.
Aleck Tungwarara (38), a police officer, was not asked to plead to the charge when he appeared before the Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya on Tuesday.
He was remanded out of custody to July 28.
The court was told that on July 8 at around 4pm, Sikhulekile Sibanda (45) who was driving a Nyaradzo Funeral Services bus went to collect mourners at Blue lamp Hall at Ross Camp.
It is alleged that Sibanda stood at the door to control the number of mourners entering the bus, that is when Tungwarara who appeared to be drunk grabbed him by the collar, headed butted him and shook him violently.
Sibanda who had not done anything to provoke Tungwarara did not sustain any injuries from the and did not seek medical attention.
He reported the matter to the police leading to Tungwarara’s arrest.
