Drama as suspect tries to escape during court session
A suspect being tried on an unlawful entry charge tried to escape the first-floor courtroom at the Tredgold Magistrates court through a window while the court was in session.
Clarence Burayayi (28) seemed to have been angered by magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa’s order to have him mentally examined before his trial could proceed.
“You will be remanded in custody and taken for medical examination by two doctors to determine if you are mentally ill or not which will assist us to determine on how to proceed with your case,” Maphosa said.
This, however, did not go down well with Burayayi who then challenged the magistrate’s decision.
He then started hurling insults at the magistrate and tried to attack her.
However, his move was quickly thwarted by the alert police officer who restrained him.
Burayayi broke free and escaped the courtroom through an open window and safely landed on the ground floor.
Security details quickly rushed to the ground floor and they apprehended him before he could make good his escape.
According to court records, on May 15 at around 5am Burayayi allegedly broke into Leatrice Titley’s house in the CBD and stole various clothes worth $8000.
