Covid-19: 24 more people succumb to the virus

Covid-19 deaths have breached the 500 mark in Zimbabwe after 24 people succumbed to the respiratory disease in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 507 deaths, while 978 new cases have been recorded.

In its daily update, the Ministry revealed that all 978 are local cases.

โ€œ978 new cases and 24 deaths reported in the last 24 hours (7 day rolling average for new cases further spikes to 887 from 858 yesterday). All 978 are local cases: 559 from Harare alone,โ€ read the report.

โ€œAs of 10 January 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 21 477 cases, 12 582 recoveries and 507 deathsโ€.

Harare recorded 559 new cases followed by Mashonaland East which recorded 83 new cases, Midlands had 69 new cases while Manicaland and Masvingo both recorded 66 cases, Bulawayo had 44 new cases, Matabeleland South 32 cases, Mashonaland West 28 cases, Matabeleland North 23 cases and Mashonaland Central had eight cases.

The fatalities were recorded in Manicaland where six people died, in Mashonaland East and Masvingo 4 people while in Mashonaland West Covid-19 claimed three lives.

Mashonaland Central, Midlands and Bulawayo all recorded two deaths each with Matabeleland North recording one fatality.ย
