Cllr Mabuto sets sights on completing Mpopoma clinic pharmacy
Ward 9 Councillor Donaldson Mabuto, who was recently elected Bulawayo’s deputy mayor, has said that one of his top priorities in his second term in office is to complete the construction of a pharmacy at Mpopoma clinic.
The pharmacy, which is currently 80% complete, is being funded through the Results Based Funding (RBF) programme. It will be a welcome relief for residents in the ward, especially the elderly, who will no longer have to travel to the city centre to acquire medication.
“We saw it fit to have the pharmacy at the clinic so that it may benefit mainly the senior citizens not to travel to the CBD to look for medication. Medication would now be at the doorstep,” said Cllr Mabuto.
In addition to the pharmacy, Cllr Mabuto also said that he plans to rehabilitate the Mpopoma hall, Mpopoma Youth Centre, and bring back the glory of Mpopoma Park Train.
Another key issue that Cllr Mabuto is focused on is the water crisis in Bulawayo. He said that he will continue to lobby the government to declare Bulawayo a water crisis city so that relief can be sought.
“We are going to push for the government to declare Bulawayo a water crisis city. We hope that with the new set of councillors we are going to push, together with the management, for the improvement of the water situation in our city,” he said.
In the meantime, Cllr Mabuto said that he will continue to work with churches in his ward to drill more boreholes to alleviate the water problems.
“For example in my ward, in Mpopoma, we party with churches, Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ, Apostolic Faith Mission, and six boreholes have been drilled to alleviate the water problems,” he said.
