Chief Fuyane to host cultural extravaganza in Maphisa

Chief Mayenga Fuyane is set to host a vibrant cultural event at Simukwe communal lands in Maphisa which will be showcasing the rich diverse cultures.

Scheduled for May 31, 2024, the event aims to unite people from various regions in celebrating their cultural heritage.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Chief Fuyane expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming cultural extravaganza.

โ€œWe will be hosting the Matabeleland South Province Culture Week launch on 31 May. Allย theย Districtsย in Matabeleland South willย be thereย to commemorateย this day.ย The event starts at the national levelย then goes to the provincial level and districtย level thenย the chiefsโ€™ villages, so this is a huge task,โ€ he said.ย

โ€œIn 2018, I was invited toย Enyandeniย in Gwanda underย Mzimunyeย and it was a culture day, the provincial launch, I was the guest ofย honourย and was given theย knobkerrie soย thatย I wouldย be the next one to hold the event but we were disturbed by the Covid-19, so weย are nowย hostingย it in 2024.โ€ย

Highlighting the essence of the day, chiefย Fuyaneย said, โ€œThe day will be a cultural day whereas traditionalย people fromย theย Fuyane, Nguni,ย Kalanga, Ndebeleย we revisit what was doneย before byย ourย greatย grandfathers.ย As theย Fuyaneย clan we willย exhibitย our culture while those from other provinces will alsoย exhibitย their culture and the way they liveย in theirย areas.โ€ย

Acknowledging the absence of a chief in Bulawayo, he extended an invitation to its residents to partake in the cultural festivities.

โ€œWe have a great village here but they have no chief, Bulawayo has our children, we know that it is a kingโ€™s area and people from there will also be present to showcase what they have even though they don’t have a chief, but there are some people who are leading them.โ€

Furthermore, Chief Fuyane underscored the educational aspect of the event.

โ€œIt will also be a day to educate our children on how things used to beย done andย they can be proud of themselves so that when they go to otherย tribes,ย theyย don’t look down upon themselves.ย

โ€œWe have invited Ibutho Lenkwali from Bulawayo who promised to come with Mzilikazi primary school children, we also invited MaTshabalala who said is going to bring virgins, we also invited Intombi zakoJama, they are all from Bulawayo and we still making arrangements for them to get to Fuyane.โ€

In the spirit of inclusivity, he also extended an invitation to individuals from all provinces to join the cultural day.

โ€œEveryone is free to attendย evenย in other districts, this will be a hugeย event asย others will be coming from South Africa,ย and even if people want toย showcaseย their cultureย they are free to do so. Five beasts will beย slaughteredย and we promise that everyone is going to be well-fed,โ€ said Chiefย Fuyane.ย
